Act I, Scene ii "Hamlet: A little more kin and less than kind" Act 3, Scene i "Hamlet: To be or not to be, that is the question Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune Or to take arms against a sea of troubles And by opposing, end them" |

Characterization in this play is EXTREMELY important in that it makes all of these characters round, rather than flat. In the two quotes above Hamlet is characterizing himself and Claudius by expressing his dislike and telling of he cruelty Claudius has done. This play actually characterizes a lot of characters through other characters lines. In the second quote Hamlet is debating suicide which characterizes him and his feelings after his father's tragic death. Shakespeare specifically wrote in Hamlet's soliloquy so that viewers and readers of the play would understand exactly how Hamlet felt and the decisions he had to make. |
